It is an organ that is made during the first trimester by the mother's body and in the second trimester takes over the very important task of nurturing the growing fetus. Because of this very important role, this organ is very rich in nutrients and hormones. Hormones that can help elevate mood, reduce symptoms of postpartum mood disorders, and even increase milk supply! In addition, one of nutrients found in large quantities in the placenta is iron. During childbirth, women loose a fair amount of blood. The placenta has the possibility of restoring some of this loss of iron.
